What will it cover?

This training provides a comprehensive grasp of grief support. It covers the diverse nature of grief, highlighting its fluid stages and individualised experiences. Communication strategies focus on active listening and sensitive discussions surrounding loss.

Participants will learn to create supportive environments by understanding the emotional and physical needs of those affected by loss, grief and bereavement, tailoring personalised support plans. Self-care for grief supporters is emphasised, addressing compassion fatigue and advocating for maintaining emotional well-being.

This training aims to:

  • Understand what is meant by grief, loss and bereavement
  • Gain a better understanding of how a bereavement can impact an individual and the factors that influence how they grieve – helping to overcome the barriers to talking about death, loss and grief
  • Identify the tools to help talk with those bereaved with confidence and compassion. Ensuring those experiencing loss feel heard, respected, and supported.
  • Develop best practice and improved confidence when engaging with individuals experiencing grief and bereavement

There will be breaks throughout the training course and the tutor will send all of the training content after the course, including any resources, references and training slides.
